FAQ Cycling Pedals

You are familiar with the standard platform pedal (sometimes with toe clips to better hold your feet on the pedal), just hop on your bike and go.  This style of pedal is great for children, casual adults, and commuters that don't want to wear special shoes when riding their bike.  You have been hearing your fellow cyclist talking about clipless pedals, with this style of pedal your shoe is connected to the pedal via a cleat that is attached to the bottom of your shoe.    Clipless pedals can help you ride stronger, faster and win more races, well maybe not the races but they do substantially improve your riding.  These unique pedals are among cycling’s most significant innovations ever.  They allow you to apply increased power to your spin and they are also easy to clip (get) in and out of.  When locked in, a simple movement of your heel can detach you from the pedals (twist foot with heel turning outwards).  If you ride consistently we recommend that you try these pedals, and here at Cyclewerx we can put you on the pedals that best suit your needs. Please note that all Clipless pedal systems require the use of Cycling Shoes.  There are two main types of pedals Road (the cleat is mounted outside the walking surface of the shoe), and Walkable /Mountain (the cleat is mounted within the walking surface of the shoe.  Finally, we will set you up with your new pedals with your bike on a Trainer (a piece of equipment that turns a standard bicycle into an stationary indoor bicycle) to get you acquainted with your new pedal system before taking them to the great outdoors.
